Housing fulfills the basic human need for shelter and is a strong measure of a community's cost of living, relative wealth, and general prosperity. The pandemic has exacerbated the pre-existing housing affordability crisis. By prioritizing these housing investments we will ensure no one and no community is left behind, we will rebuild from the pandemic because we are stronger together.

Each home Habitat Dutchess builds meets the goal of providing everyone a safe and decent place to live. Beyond the houses we build, Habitat invests across our local economy. In 2019. We supported 13 jobs generating over $500,000 in wages paid to our economy. Additionally, we paid over $50,000 in local and state taxes.

We build affordable housing with volunteer labor for qualified families to purchase. In addition to qualification, prospective owners help with the build and provide “Sweat Equity” hours which ensures buy in from our families empowering them to be long-term homeowners. “We give people a hand up, not a handout.”
