Help me honor my moms,...&/or honor a special women in your life!
Happy International Women's Day, Sisters! The day to celebrate how far we've come in our gender equality efforts, AND to acknowledge how wide the gap still is for many (women earn .84¢ on the man's dollar in wages). And for me, ... there's no better way to spend the day than to kick off the Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County Women's Build! Today, we start demo'ing a tired, out-dated, in need of many repairs condominium and will rehab it into an AFFORDABLE spiffy new home for a qualified buyer. I invite all my women friends to join me on this 2-month project! Thank you for considering a financial contribution to the support the project. On a VERY personal level, I am involved in the Women's Build to honor the 2 women in my life that have had tremendous impact on me being me: my mother-in-law, Dale Adams, and of course, my mom, Kay Couse. These women might have been from a different generation when a woman's primary role was wife, mother and home keeper. But they were both fiercely independent women who weren't afraid to express their opinions and views. And both, especially my mom, recognized, understood and encouraged my "tom-boy spirit." Today, I help lead a construction project free of gender-bias, in their honor. I just know that Dale and Kay are looking down today with pride.
